CHAPTER 4

One month later
Kid watched Lou sleeping on the settee. Although she was now five months along, she still tired easily. He ran his fingers though her hair and gently caressed her cheek with his thumb.
"I love you, baby." Kid whispered. "What did I do to deserve you, Lou?" She answered softly, "You deserve better than me, Kid." Kid, a little surprised that she had heard him, stroked her chin and shook his head no.
"Never, baby. I'm goin' to groom Katy and Lightening. Wanna come, Lou."
"Yeah," she answered. Lou pushed herself to get up but stopped halfway through and gasped as her hand went to her abdomen.
"What's wrong, angel?" Kid asked very worried. Lou slowly closed her eyes and laid back down. After a minute she opened her eyes and smiled.
"I felt it move, Kid." He placed a hand on her slightly swollen belly and placed a gentle kiss on her forehead. They sat like that for several more minutes until the baby stopped moving. They got up and walked to the barn hand-in-hand. Lou enjoyed the small looks of wonder Kid kept throwing at her. When they got to the barn Kid took Katy out and began grooming her. Lou leaned against the wall and watched as he worked, his strong muscles moving through his shirt. Just seeing him like that sent shivers down her spine. She thought about his strong arms wrapped around her then quickly shook her head to clear her mind. Geez Lou, you can't be thinkin' things like that. at least not now, when your pregnant. She subconsciencly chewed on her bottom lip and leaned into the wall harder. Kid looked over at Lou and walked over to her, wrapping his arms around her and hugging her closely.
"You OK baby? You tired?" Lou smiled. He was always so worried about her and it though annoying, it was cute. She hadn't realized how tired she was until that minute so she shook her head against his chest. Kid picked her up, carried her to a pile of hay and gently laid her down. He went to get up but Lou grabbed his hand, "Stay with me?" She asked.
'Always." was Kid's simple answer and he laid down next to her.

CHAPTER 5

A few hours later Lou awoke with Kid's arm wrapped around her waist, gently massaging her abdomen. She smiled and sighed then turned to look at Kid. She was surprised that he was awake.
"What time is it, Kid?" she asked, her voice sleepy.
"About five," he answered.
"Five! Kid, we been out here for three hours. What have you been doin' for three hours?"
"Watchin' you," he answered, his eyes hungry. Lou swallowed hard, trying hard not to throw herself onto him. Lately she had been wanting him so badly, but was afraid that she would hurt the baby. And now here he was so close to her that she could feel his warm breath against her face. She wanted so badly to wrap her arms around his and hold him and kiss him and have his body close to her. Lou felt her breath catch in her throat. He leaned down and kissed her softly at first. She couldn't resist and kissed him back harder. Kid wrapped his arms around her and kissed her with so much pent up passion that she thought her lips would be bruised tomorrow, but she didn't care. He rolled over so he was on top of her and began sucking on her neck, kissing all the way down to the bustline of her shirt. He was driving her crazy and Lou wanted it so badly. Kid began undoing the top buttons on her shirt and Lou knew she had to regain control before she did something she would regret. Lou pulled her face away and covered his hands on his.
"Kid......we can't do this." She gasped, trying to gain control of herself. Kid stopped instantly, but looked at her, puzzled.
"What' s wrong, angel? Oh my God Lou, is something wrong with the baby? Did I hurt you? I'm so sorry angel," he rambled before Lou could stop him.
"No no no, Kid. Never. It's just that...I, well, I....I don't know if we can. I mean with the baby, I don't want to hurt it." Lou looked at him like a small child.
"Is there someone you could ask, Lou? I mean, I don't know if I can wait another four months. Maybe Rachel or Doctor Martin?" Kid asked.
"OK." she answered. "Let's go inside and get cleaned up for dinner." They stood and brushed all the hay off of them and fixed their hair. Lou re-buttoned her shirt and they walked to the house hand-in-hand.

CHAPTER 6

After dinner, Kid and the rest of the boys went to feed the horses dinner, finish up the few chores that were left and then get ready for bed. The boys had come to stay for a while because Kid refused to let Lou do any work and she refused to let him to it all. Since the land they bought had a bunkhouse on it, which was very lucky, the boys agreed to come once or twice a week and help out. Since it was only her and Rachel in the house, Lou took this time to ask her about her predicament with Kid.
"Uh...Rachel? Could I ask you something?" she asked quite nervously.
"Course you can, honey. Come sit down." Rachel could see the nervous look on the girl's face and decided it would be best for them to sit so Lou couldn't pace back and forth as she often did. "What's on your mind?"
"Well, you see. I was wonderin' if ......I mean would it be OK if me and the Kid ... well, could we....you know..."
"Make love?" Rachel asked, her eyebrows raised.
"Yea." Lou answered shyly. "Cause' I mean...I want to but I was scared of hurtin' the baby."
"Oh, honey, of course you can. You just have to be more gentle and once you get bigger, well, figure out a way. Louise, it's perfectly normal to feel like you're feeling when you're pregnant. Of course, once you get closer to having the baby I would stop just to be safe, OK." Rachel answered. The look on Lou's face was priceless. Rachel could only imagine how awkward this must be for her. Ah, to be young and in love she thought to herself. She patted Lou's knee. "Go on and get ready for bed. You gotta be tired."
"Thanks Rachel." Lou said. She was about to get up when she felt her stomach flutter. Her hand went to her belly. "Hi there, little one," she said. Lou looked up at Rachel with stars in her eyes. "He's movin, Rachel." Rachel smiled and pulled Lou into a gentle embrace.
"I'm so happy for the both of you Louise."
"Thanks Rachel...for everything." Lou said as she rose to go upstairs and dress for bed.

CHAPTER 7 note: this chapter contains some mild sexual scenes

Kid walked in as Lou finished buttoning up her shirt. Actually in was Kid's but she always slept in one of his shirts. Kid loved the way she looked in it, as it was much too big for her small frame.
"Hey there." Kid said as he sat on the bed and began taking his shoes off.
"Hey yourself." Lou answered smiling. Kid noticed the small smile on her lips and wondered what she was so happy about. He removed his shirt and looked up at her.
"And just what are you smiling at Mrs. Mcloud?"
Lou walked over to him and sat on his lap as he instinctively wrapped his arms around her waist. "I talked to Rachel tonight," she answered.
"And?" Kid questioned, praying the answer was "OK." Lou placed a soft kiss on his lips and then moved down to his jawbone as her hands roamed over his back.
"Well, I'm guessing that's a yes." Kid stated, pulling away to look deep into her eyes. She shook her head yes quickly, before wrapping her arms tightly around his neck. Kid pulled her into a tight embrace before he began kissing her intensely. First her lips, then he moved on to her jawbone and then her neck, which he knew she loved. He gently laid her down on the bed and began working on the buttons of her shirt. This time she didn't stop him. Instead she unbuttoned his pants in one quick motion. Within minutes they were both completely naked and lost in the throes of passion. He entered her slowly as not to hurt her. Once he was in he gave her a minute to adjust. When she was ready, he gently made love to her. She felt him fill her and clung tightly to him with tears in her eyes.
"What's wrong, Angel? Did I hurt you?" Kid asked when he saw the tears, his voice full of fear that he had hurt her. Lou shook her head no.
"I'm so lucky to have you Kid. I never thought I could trust a man ever again, but look at me now; in love, married and with a baby on the way. I'm so lucky Kid." She answered, still holding him tightly.
"I love too, Lou," Kid answered,"And baby you deserve all of this, you deserve more than me. You deserve the sun to rise and set for you, Lou. I love you so much baby. I hope you know that."
"Oh, Kid. I love you too, more than I can say."
"Shhh angel, rest now." Kid said to Lou as he gently laid her back against the pillows. Once she was settled, he moved down and rested his head on her abdomen, content to listen to their child growing inside of her.

CHAPTER 8

Lou awoke to find Kid with his head still resting on her belly and one hand gently rubbing her side. She smiled and ran her fingers through his curly hair. He woke up, looked up at her and smiled.
"'Mornin' beautiful." he whispered. Lou smiled in return. Kid laid his head back on the stomach.
"Kid..." Lou started.
"Shh... he' s talkin' to me Lou." Kid answered smiling.
"Oh really? And just what is he sayin' ?"
Kid looked up at his wife. "Well, he says that he's got the most beautiful mommy in the world. And he also says that hes' quite comfortable in here." Kid said patting her belly lightly. "He says he thinks you should rest more though."
"Kid." Lou whined, "I can't possiblly rest anymore. I'll go crazy." She looked at him with pleading eyes.
"Baby, I'm just messin' with you. He didn't say that." Kid smiled at her as he climbed up to kiss her. "Come on, let's go get breakfast," he reached out to take her hand. Suddenly she grabbed his hand and pressed it to her abdomen. Kid looked up at her with a shocked look on his face.
"I can feel it, Lou. It's movin'. Oh my gosh Lou." he looked up at her incredulously. She couldn't help but smiling at his reaction.
"Come on Kid, we better go downstairs before Cody does if we want to eat." The two of them walked downstairs together hand-in-hand.

CHAPTER 9

After breakfast Kid and Lou made their way to town for Lou's doctor appointment and to pick up some supplies. Kid helped Lou into the buckboard and the started off for town. When they got to th office Kid helped her down and they walked in together. Doctor Martin smiled at the young couple and led them into the examining room. Lou laid down on the table as the doctor washed his hands. When he was done he can over to check Lou.
"How have you been Louise?" he asked as her began unbuttoning the buttons in the middle of her shirt so her belly would be exposed.
"Ok I guess, tired sometimes, but I'm alright," she answered.
"Good, Good, and Kid how have you been ?" Dr. Martin replied as he gently pressed on Lou's belly.
"I been great Doc," Kid answered, "mostly worrin' 'bout Lou." he said laughing. Lou laughed softly at Kid's response.
"Lou, this baby movin around much?" Dr. Martin asked.
"Yeah, he moves around alot. 'Bout scared the hell outa me the first time it happened" she answered. The doctor finished up his examination and gave Lou a clean bill of health.
"Well, everything looks fine Louise, your baby should be commin' in around three months. I want you to really rest whenever you feel tired though, alright."
"Alright." Lou groaned. If one more person told her to rest up, she though she would crack.

CHAPTER 10

Kid and Lou walked out of the office and began walking down the street when they heard gunshots being fired. Before they could find cover, another shot rean gout and seconds later, Lou felt a searing pain in her chest as she grabbed on to Kid's arm to keep form colasping. Kid frantically looked over to see a red stain spreading across her chest.
"Oh my God, Lou." Kid exclaimed as he laid her down and his hand went to her chest and the other held up her shoulders. He hadn't noticed that the shooting a stopped and that assaliant had fallen while another man came running towards them. Kid looked up at the stranger, with tears in his eyes.
"She's six months pregnant." Kid said almost in tears. The man looked at the pale woman, "I'll go tell the Doc you're commin'." With that he ran off in the direction of the office. Kid looked down at Lou.
"Baby, I can't lose you." With that he picked up her unconscience form and walked quickly to the doctors office for the second time that day, but this time wasn't nearly as joyful.
