Chapter 1

"Morning beautiful." Kid said to his wife as her eyes gently fluttered open. "How ya feeling this morning?" he asked as he pushed a stray hair from her face. He and Lou had been married two months and things looked a lot better now then they had when the young couple had been first married. Cody and Jimmy had decided not to sign with the Army. Much to Lou's suprise Kid had decided not to return to Virginia and fight. Buck, Cody, Jimmy and Teaspoon stayed in Rock Creek after the Express ended. Kid, Lou and Rachel went back to Sweetwater, which was only a short ride from where the o! thers lived. They found a house similar to the one that Rachel had lived in when the Express was still going. Rachel stayed in a room downstairs where the kitchen, and living room were, while Kid and Lou's room was upstairs. It was nice having Rachel around to help with the cooking and such.
"I'm all right." Lou lied. The truth was that she felt terrible. Her head ached and she was exhausted. She also had this terrible feeling in her stomach, like she was going to be sick.
"You sure?" Kid asked not sure if he believed her. Lou had been sick for a while and he was getting a little worried.
"I'm fine Kid." Lou said as she sat up, only to grab onto Kid's arm to keep her from falling back down. Her headache was so terrible that it felt like the room was spinning.
"Lou!" Kid exclaimed putting one hand behind her back and the other on her waist. "Sweetheart are you OK? What kind of a question is that, of course you're not OK." Kid said answering his own question. "Honey, you need to see a doctor." Kid said concerned for his wife's health. Lou nodded her head yes as she kept a steady grip on Kid's arm. "Are you OK to get up and get dressed?" Kid asked worriedly.
"Yeah." Lou answered as she slowly rose to get dressed. Kid slowly helped Lou dress and walk down the stairs. When Rachel saw Lou holding onto Kid's arm and the worried look on Kid's face, she rushed over to help.
"Louise, what is it?" Rachel asked concerned at how pale Lou looked
"I just ain't feeling to great." Lou answered in a shaky voice.
"Lou, why don't you eat some breakfast while a get a wagon ready, then we can go see the doctor?" Kid suggested. Lou nodded her head yes. Kid placed a gently kiss on her forehead and headed out the door.
Rachel sat Lou down and handed her a plate with eggs, bacon, and biscuits on it and a cup of coffee.
"Thanks Rachel." Lou said to her friend. Rachel smiled and patted her on the shoulder. Lou ate a little but just wasn't hungry. In about fifteen minutes Kid came back in.
"Ya ready, Lou?" Kid asked
"Yeah," she answered as she rose to clear the table.
"Don't worry about that, honey." Rachel said to Lou.
"Thanks for breakfast, Rachel." Lou said in a low voice.

When Kid and Lou arrived at Doctor Martin's office Lou wasn't feeling any better. The doctor took Kid and Lou into the examining room to see what was the problem. Lou explained that she hadn't been feeling well. The doctor felt around on her stomach for a moment then smiled.
"There is a simple answer to all of this." Doctor Martin said smiling, "It appears that you are going to have a baby."

Chapter 2

"A baby?" Lou asked a little shocked.
"Yup. You're about 11 weeks along," the doctor answered nodding his head. Lou felt a smile spreading across her face. She looked over at Kid and saw the same expression on his face.
"Wow." Lou said, "That's amazing."
"Congratulations," the doctor said to the couple. "Now Louise, you'll have to be more careful with what you do. No more horseback riding or lifting heavy things. I want to see you again in two weeks."
"OK." Lou replied.
"Do you have any questions?" Doctor Martin asked.
"No, I don't think so." Lou answered.
"Then I'll see you in two weeks."

When Kid and Lou got back home it was around 1:00 and Rachel had lunch just about finished. Kid and Lou took off their coats and walked into the kitchen.
"That smells amazing, Rachel," Lou said.
"Yeah," Kid agreed.
"Thanks. It's vegetable soup and it's almost finished." Rachel answered. "Why don't you two set the table."
"Sure thing." Kid replied, "Lou, you can go sit down."
"Thanks Kid, but I feel much better," she replied.

As soon as the table was set Rachel brought them two bowls of hot soup and then got her own.
"Are you feeling better Lou?" Rachel asked.
"Much better thank you," Lou answered "Rachel, you know that I think of you as a mother so if me and Kid were to have children, would you mind if they called you grandma? "Lou asked
"I would love that honey," Rachel answered.
"So they would be like your grandchildren?"
"Yeah." Rachel replied
"Rachel," Lou stared, "you're gonna have a grandbaby."

Chapter 3

"A grandbaby?" Rachel asked, "Really?"
"Yeah. In about six months," Kid answered taking Lou's hand in his and smiling.
"That's wonderful! Congratulations to both of you," Rachel said smiling at the young couple. "Louise if you like today we can go into town and you can pick of some fabrics and I'll make you a few dresses."
"That would be wonderful, Rachel," Lou replied.
"While you ladies do that, I can finish the repairs on the barn," Kid said referring to the boards that need mending in some of the stalls and cobwebs needed to be knocked down. "Thanks for lunch, Rachel, I was great." Kid said as he washed off his plate. He came up behind Lou, wrapped his arms around her waist and placed a gentle kiss on her cheek while one hand slide down low on her belly. "You two have fun."

When Rachel and Lou got back from town Kid was just finishing up the barn. He walked over to greet them. "Geez, did yall buy the whole shop?" Kid laughed as he saw all the bags piled up in the back of the buckboard. Rachel had suggested that she make the dresses with an expandable waist so that Lou could wear them for her whole pregnancy. Then they had seen some baby things and had to get a few things. Rachel walked inside with a few of the bags to start dinner. Lou reached into the back of the buckboard to get some of the bags but Kid stepped in front of her.
"Lou, don't you remember what the doctor said?" he asked "No lifting heavy things," he said as he reached into the buckboard to get the bags. Lou couldn't help but smile at how concerned about her he was.
"Yes, dear," she answered as she walked inside.
